Do you need security lights for your business? For business owners, darkness is one of the biggest security threats. We’ve all heard of break-ins, thefts and vandalism being carried out under cover of darkness. This is because opportunistic criminals or even those with a plan know that, if they can’t be seen, they are less likely to be caught. This is why some high-street shops keep their lights on at night. We don’t exactly recommend this, because it is both costly and environmentally unfriendly, but light is certainly part of the solution. Instead, why not consider installing security lights?

Catch intruders off-guard

Security lighting only comes on when movement is detected, so it is a good way to catch would-be intruders off-guard. Ideally, this sudden burst of light will deter them from committing a crime, and stop them from targeting the property again in the future.

Get into the mindset of an intruder

When you’re setting up security lights for your business premises, the most effective approach is to get into the mindset of an intruder and walk around your property identifying all the potentially insecure areas. If you have CCTV, think about how security lights could be positioned to make it more effective. If there is a large dark space near your property – for example, a car park – then it is a good idea to have some lighting here so that intruders do not see the property as an easy target.

Illuminate blind spots

If there are areas around your business that a criminal could lurk without being seen (e.g. tall hedges, dark corners or an alleyway), then you could install a security light near these to make them more unsuitable hiding places. For an even stronger security solution, you could install a CCTV camera that overlooks these areas, so that, if they do attempt a break-in, you will be able to see them and their actions more clearly in the footage the camera collects.

Infra-red CCTV

Another great option for boosting your security capabilities in the dark is to install infra-red CCTV. This enables the camera to see in the dark, and means that, if a crime is committed, you will have clear CCTV footage of the intruder or vandal that you can show to the police.
