INTRUDER
ALARMS
What types of Burglar Alarms are there?
BELLS ONLY SYSTEMS
A bells only system would do the job alright in built up
areas. They deter some intruders by the first sight of
the alarm box out on the front or rear wall of the
property but not all of them because some are brave and
some are desperate, desperate to make a quick grab and
run of whatever they could see and get a hold of easily
enough.
The good thing about having an alarm is that they don’t
get to stick around for long to find those most valuable
possessions i.e.; Rolex watches, Diamonds, Cartier’s,
Gold, Platinum, sentimental stuff passed down from generations, and all
the rest of it.
The most reliable bells only system is the one where
your neighbours are friendly with you and would be
curious to want to know why your alarm is going off
otherwise you just have to rely on the noise.
Any alarm with a part set enabled feature (BEDTIME) in
it is great and I’ll tell you why its great shall I?
It’s great because it will wake you up as soon as they
try to break in.
MONITORED BURGLAR ALARM
A monitored burglar alarm is an alarm which sends a
digital signal normally down a phone line to an Alarm
Receiving Centre (ARC) or Central Monitoring
Station (CMS) which are one of the same whether an
intruder breaks into your property or a false alarm
occurs.
These are good when you haven’t got friendly neighbours
to take notice of your alarm going off or if you live
out in the sticks.
They are also an extra piece of mind whether you are in
or out.
What do I mean when you are in? I mean you could press a
panic button and the police will arrive, or your carbon
monoxide detector may have spotted a few gas particles
and the fire fighters are on their way or even if you
are in bed and an unexpected guest breaks in and sets
the alarm off and forces you to turn it off, well sorry
pal but the boys in blue are on their way to get ya.

Normally by this time the noise of the system would be
enough to send them away before they try to do that
anyway.
There are many rules and regulations in this game
especially when it comes to monitored systems, I’ll be
very brief about it and the rest I’ll explain to you
when you buy one.
The basic idea is that the police won’t be called out to
a false alarm, they’ll only be called out to a genuine
one and the alarms nowadays can tell the difference
through technology but we won’t tell you how they know
now because we can’t, we’ll tell you when we see you.
CONFIDENTIALITY!
There are several different types of monitored alarm
devices;
1) Digital communicator which dials a number down
a phone line and sends a digital signal.
2) Redcare Classic which sends a pulse down the
phone line without dialing a number and monitors the
line 24 hours a day for line failure.
3) Redcare GSM which again the same
as a Redcare classic but also works as a back up system
using the GSM network in the case of the line going down
and further signals might need sending i.e. the burglar
decides to stick around so therefore a confirmed signal
is then generated through the detection devices.
4) Dualcom works with a digital
communicator and if the phone line fails then the
Dualcom uses the Vodaphone network to transmit a signal.
